As we draw close to the end of June, i just want to remind people that Pride should be celebrated ALL the time, not just during one month of the year. LGBT Pride Month is a month, typically June, dedicated to celebration and commemoration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender pride. Pride Month began after the Stonewall riots, a series of gay liberation protests in 1969, and has since spread outside of the United States.
What does the acronym stand for ?
‘LGBTQIA+’
L = lesbian
G = gay
B = bisexual
T = transgender
Q = queer / questioning
I = intersex
A = asexual
+ = plus more terms that are ever evolving
So here are some definitions that you can use to educate yourself, others, your kids, everyone. The more we know the less prejudiced we are likely to be.
LESBIAN
An identity label sometimes claimed by woman-identified people who form their primary romantic and sexual relationships with other woman-identified people. Some nonbinary people also identify with this term.
GAY
An identity label sometimes claimed by man-identified people who form their primary romantic and sexual relationships with other man-identified people.
BISEXUAL or BI
Someone who is attracted to people of their gender or other gender identities. While this offers a basic definition, bisexual people are a diverse group. Each individual perceives their sexual orientation differently.
PANSEXUAL
Someone who is attracted to people of all gender identities. Or someone who is attracted to a person’s qualities regardless of their gender identity. Its not the same as celibacy and has many sub-groups.

ASEXUAL
Asexual is the lack of sexual attraction to others, or a low interest in sexual activity. Some people consider asexuality to be their sexual orientation, and others describe it as an absence of sexual orientation.
AROMANTIC
Desribes people who experience little or no romantic attraction. (Asexual people do not always identify as aromantic; aromantic people do not always identify as asexual.)
DEMISEXUAL
Demisexual is a sexual orientation in which a person feels sexually attracted to someone only after they've developed a close emotional bond with them. Demisexuality only refers to the type of attraction that person feels, not how often they have sex
GRAYSEXUAL
Graysexual, also known as gray asexuality, gray-a, gray-ace, or grey-ace — is a term to describe people who identify as asexual but don't fit into the main types of asexuality.
ACEFLUX OR AROFLUX
someone whose capacity for sexual or romantic attraction changes over time. An aceflux individual may feel very strongly asexual one day and less asexual another day, they might feel demisexual or greysexual at times. Some aceflux individuals may feel like they are allosexual at times. Aceflux can be a sexual orientation on its own or can combined with other orientations. For example, one could be aceflux and bisexual, meaning that when one does experience sexual attraction it's towards individuals of two or more genders.
CISGENDER
Cisgender is someone whose gender identity matches the sex they were assigned at birth. This is the majority of people, for example a straigh man or a straight woman. We steer clear of saying these are 'normal' people because there is no such thing as normal.
TRANSGENDER
A wide-ranging term for people whose gender identity or gender expression differs from the biological sex they were assigned at birth. Some transgender people who desire medical assistance to transition from one sex to another identify as transsexual.
GENDER NONCONFORMING, OR G.N.C.
One who expresses gender outside traditional norms associated with masculinity or femininity. Not all gender-nonconforming people are transgender, and some transgender people express gender in conventionally masculine or feminine ways.
NONBINARY
Or genderqueer is an umbrella term for gender identities that are not solely male or female. It is a person who identifies as neither male nor female and sees themselves outside the gender binary.
GENDERQUEER
A term often used to describe someone whose gender identity is outside the strict male/female binary. They may exhibit both traditionally masculine and feminine qualities or neither.
QUEER
The term Queer is a a multi-faceted word that is used in different ways and means different things to different people. In general a queer person may be attracted to people of many genders. It is a general term referring to all non-heterosexual people.
QUESTIONING
An individual who is unsure of and/or exploring their gender identity and/or sexual orientation.
INTERSEX
A term for someone born with biological sex characteristics that aren’t traditionally associated with male or female bodies. Intersexuality does not refer to sexual orientation or gender identity.
GENDER FLUID
A term used by people whose identity shifts or fluctuates. Sometimes these individuals may identify or express themselves as more masculine on some days, and more feminine on others.
GENDER-NEUTRAL
Someone who prefers not to be described by a specific gender, but prefers “they” as a singular pronoun.
